Russian Martial Arts
Yet another art with and ancient history. The Russian fighters have warded off invasion by armies from both east and west. Mongols, Vikings, Bolgars and others. The Cossacks were of course a highly skilled military class who served as not only defenders and in some parts rulers of Russia but also as mercenaries. But Systema (the System) was more then a martial art for professional solders. Created to be highly adaptive, instinctive and easy to learn. The hardest part was learning the instinct of Systema that relied on relaxation and control under stress and form many positions.

To understand the Russian Martial arts you must understand it from a complete picture. Relaxation, enjoyment, health and fluidity of movement. There are no preset pattern, katas or forms. It is not just another fighting style but a way to relate to the world and yourself. There are no techniques but rather principles that allow movement on your part and deny such movement for your opponent.

The movement of the Russian Martial arts is very reminiscent of the movements of Kung Fu, and Shuai Chiao at the highest level. It is really a study of the human body. An understanding of physical movement, power generation and how to weaken your opponent. The Russian Martial arts also involve strikes, weapons and all aspects of grappling.

I feel this is the best approach to learning true self defense and is ideal for Police and Security training.
