Achilles Counter

To often when guys attempt this lock they are simply grappling the leg and falling back with the most common result being his opponent simply rides up on top of him and takes a mount.  Bad form all the way around.

When a guy does the "flat back" leg lock he will make him self vulnerable to a wide variety of hooks.  Here I will touch on just a few possible counters.

aclcnt_bnd1.jpg (55391 bytes) Grab the foot of his control leg at the toes and crank it down and back towards him (point his toes towards his crotch.  This will lessen his pressure.   It will also free your other leg and give you a little space.  It may be enough right there to finish him.  More then likely however he will need a little more to fully appreciate the errors of his ways.  Wrap you now freed leg over his foot.  Again control at the toes.  You locked leg becomes the fulcrum to crank his ankle over.  Push your cranking foot down and under your locked leg as you raise your hips cranking his ankle. aclcnt_bnd3.jpg (56334 bytes)
aclcnt_lb1.jpg (49313 bytes) If he uses his straight leg to try to keep your chest down then he is again made a fatal mistake.  Wrap your free leg over him above the knee and figure four your leg under your trapped leg.  Drive you lower legs down and slightly out.   At the same time raise your body.  If need be or if his leg is very long grab his foot and push like a close hands bench press.  Be sure your legs do not raise as this will take pressure off the lock. aclcnt_lb2.jpg (53386 bytes)
Short Leg Scissors
If he does not put that foot on top of you it will be easy to control.  Simply grab the foot at the toes and position it between your legs.  This will be easier then you might think.

Thread an arm behind the knee.  Pull your arm cutting the blades into the top of the calve.  At the same time slide your butt in.  Get your butt as close to his as possible the drive your hips in crunching the leg
