"I can smell the fear"
Adam Rachuy
Those who don't grapple can never really understand. I always get a funny look when I talk about my friend Adam. I talk about how the first time we met how he pummeled me. That over the years he has dislocated my bones, stretched my tendons and broke my trachea; yet I consider him my friend (isn't that better then having that kind of person as an enemy?). They don't get it - but then again it is not theirs to get. This is a wrestler's bond.
Adam and I have been coaching together for several years now and have been working on the mat together for well over a decade. In many ways we are night and day in our mat styles and coaching approaches save for one key factors that we share with each other but that separates us from many other martial arts teachers - Neither of us feels the need to be right.
Adam has a very strong wrestling back ground. That fundamental base is one thing that many if not most grapplers are lacking. Because of this base Adam can keep pressure on an opponent from beginning to end. This alone will often intimidate and opponent terribly forcing them to fold up like a cheap suit in front of Adam. He is great for new students because he does not show pity or remorse. Generally speaking if you take your first steps with Adam and don't quit - you will never be afraid to wrestle anyone. That doesn't mean you will always win; but you will no longer have any fear because you have already experienced as bad as it is going to get.
While age and injuries have taken their toll they have done little to slow down Adam's predator style on the mat. Pressuring like a pack of wolves until an opening is created then exploiting. Adam does not sit back and wait for mistakes - he creates - then destroys.
That is why he is my friend
